Northern-based Senator Ian Macdonald has welcomed news that the Honeycombes’ Marine Tourism Precinct will receive $15m under the Regional Growth Fund for their precinct.
The North Queensland business has been invited to submit Full Business Cases for assessment under the Australian Government’s highly anticipated $272.2 million Regional Growth Fund.
More than 300 applications have been received from state and territory governments, local governments, businesses and not-for-profit organisations.
The Regional Growth Fund provides grants of $10 million or more for major transformational projects that support long-term economic growth and create regional jobs.
Senator Macdonald said the project would be a driving force for North Queensland when it comes to economic growth and jobs.
“I am pleased to see Honeycombes’ Marine Tourism Precinct progress to the next stage of the application progress. It’s extremely exciting to get such a large and significant amount of funding for a very important project.
“It’s a game-changer for North Queensland.
“The precinct will go a long way towards making the North even stronger and more resilient. I would like to congratulate Honeycombes and wish them all the best with the next stage of their application.
“Support for a project of this scale is great news for the Townsville economy, and Townsville jobs.”
