New administration building for St Rita’s School

Students and staff at St Rita’s School in South Johnstone will have full use of a new administration building including a staffroom, boardroom and staff and student amenities, thanks to funding from the Federal Coalition Government.

North Queensland based LNP Senator, Ian Macdonald, officially opened the new facility at St Rita’s School today, on behalf of the Federal Education Minister, the Hon Dan Tehan MP and the Coalition Government.

“It was great to visit St Rita’s School, see the new facilities firsthand and appreciate the benefit the $636,438 in funding from the Capital Grants Program will have for the school community” Senator Macdonald said.

“These new facilities are contemporary in design and take into account the requirements of the staff, the students and the broader school community, providing a safe, modern and vibrant working environment” he said.

“This is part of the Federal Coalition Government’s commitment to ensuring students have the support they need to succeed in the classroom and it’s great to see local schools in North Queensland successfully accessing this funding program.”

“Funding for the Queensland Catholic Education Commission is estimated to grow from $1.29 billion to $1.94 billion in 2027 - an average per student increase of 3.7 per cent each year over the next four years” Senator Macdonald said.

“Catholic schools have always made a very important contribution to the education of our young people across Australia, but particularly in North Queensland and the Federal Coalition Government is committed to supporting that contribution” he said.

“We know that buildings and funding are important, but those things by themselves don’t necessarily make great schools so the Government has commissioned the Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Australian Schools”.

“Led by David Gonski, the review resulted in 23 recommendations and we are now working to deliver them alongside states and territories and non-government school authorities, so our young people get the best possible education.”
