Townsville-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has welcomed the announcement today by Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss of appointments to the national network of Regional Development Australia (RDA) committees.
Senator Macdonald said he had worked closely with the Northern RDA committees over many years and believed the contribution of the network to the national policy-making process was often understated.
"In recent years the five Northern Australian RDA committees have been closely involved in the development of the soon-to-be-released Federal Government White Paper on Northern Australia," he said.
"I congratulate Professor Allan Dale, Paul Woodhouse and Darryl Camilleri on their re-appointment a chairmen of the FNQ, Townsville and North-West and Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday RDA committees.
"Their expertise and commitment are recognised by their re-appointment to these important roles," he said.
Senator Macdonald said RDA’s contribution to the policy debate helped grease the wheels that linked the three tiers of government.
"I firmly believe that stronger regions are the key to sustained national growth and that’s where the RDA plays a critical role," he said.
RDA is a national network of 55 committees designed to highlight important regional economic development and facilitate local projects.
