Statement by Senator Ian Macdonald on LNP Senate ticket

I am very pleased to have been endorsed by the LNP State Executive to contest the next Federal election on 2 July, 2016.

I am determined to do everything I can to ensure the return of all six sitting LNP Senators at the election.

As number 4 on the ticket, my election would be likely and it would mean that if the convention is followed, I would, as a short term Senator this election, be leading the LNP Senate team at a normal half Senate election in three years time.

If elected on 2 July I will complete the current six year term for which I was elected in 2013.

It will also mean that North Queensland will continue to have a strong and experienced voice in the Senate.

This is a stark contrast to the Labor Party which has dumped its long-serving and dedicated Northern Senator Jan McLucas.

As a team, the LNP Senators will be campaigning continuously to ensure our number 5, number 6 and even number 7 candidates on the ticket are elected.

For me this campaigning starts in earnest after Anzac Day with a four day visit to Mt Isa and North-west Queensland.
