Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has welcomed today’s announcement of the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility board members, which includes well-known figures from the North.
“I am particularly delighted that two prominent northerners, Bill Shannon and Barry Coulter will form part of the Board,” Senator Macdonald said.
Former Mayor of Cassowary Coast Bill Shannon served from 2008-16. He is a chartered accountant, company director and farmer and a highly respected advocate for Northern Australia.
As Mayor, Mr Shannon was involved in many local government and development organisations and understands what the North needs, Senator Macdonald said.
Mr Coulter is a former member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, serving for 16 years. During this time he served as Deputy Chief Minister and in a range of portfolios, including Treasurer. He also has over 35 years experience in the infrastructure sector, and chairs or is a board member of significant northern companies.
“Their combined experience, knowledge and passion for the North will stand us in good stead when it comes to ensuring the best outcomes are delivered through NAIF.”
Senator Macdonald said other Board Members have an impressive background in banking, finance, accountancy, law and business, which will cover all bases in the challenging tasks ahead.
“It’s also further evidence that these cheap infrastructure loans, designed to stimulate the economy, are well on track for delivery from 1 July, 2016.”
