Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has made a heart-felt tribute to Etheridge Shire’s newest Citizen of the Year, Noeline Ikin.
Noeline, who earlier this year stood down as the LNP candidate for the seat of Kennedy to fight a brain tumour, was announced the 2016 Etheridge Shire Council Citizen of the Year for her many years of dedicated service and support to the region.
“For more than 20 years, Noeline has been unrelenting in her passion to improve outcomes for communities and people right across the Northern Gulf region,” Senator Macdonald said.
“There is no more deserving recipient of this year’s Citizenship award.”
“It has been my absolute privilege to work alongside Noeline, to call her a friend and an ally, and support her in her quest to provide better representation and improved services for the people of Kennedy.”
Senator Macdonald said one of his proudest moments was being part of Noeline’s campaign as the LNP candidate for Kennedy at the last federal election.
“She came so close last time, and I have no doubt she would have unseated the incumbent at the next election.”
"But apart from politics and public life, I know Noeline to be a committed and caring person and wonderful mother and wife, and a downright dinky-di Australian.
"The Etheridge Shire have made a wonderful choice."
