Senator Macdonald welcomes potential for change under new ABC Chair
Ita Buttrose will lead the ABC after the Prime Minister confirmed that she will be the public broadcaster’s next chair.
Senator Macdonald welcomed the appointment and expressed his hope that it would be an opportunity for the ABC to move forward from its previous blatant political bias.
“Unfortunately, the ABC has become a city-centric political machine for the Greens and Labor, which has meant the downfall of regional services and loss of ideological balance.” Senator Macdonald said.
“During the recent floods here in Townsville where I live, the news from ABC was being reported on by Cairns and while they did a commendable job it is still a far cry from a reporter on the ground.”
Senator Macdonald said the appointment offered an opportunity for the ABC to restore journalistic integrity and refocus on its original mandate of services to all of Australia, including regional and remote areas.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for a new chair to break up the Ultimo socialist cabal that has been running the organisation and get back to providing accurate and important news for Australians.”
“This I hope would mean a down-scaling of much of the useless ABC functions in the cities and a restoration of a focus in the regions, significantly reducing the ABC’s billion-dollar budget!” Senator Macdonald said.
