Seasons’ greetings everyone.
On the eve of the New Year I send my best wishes for a productive and safe 2015 for everyone.
In 2015 my government colleagues and I will be focused on families and on delivering the policy settings that will improve quality of life for all Australians.
2015 will also see the release of the Government’s White Paper on Northern Australian development. This much anticipated document will provide policy direction for the north of the nation for decades to come.
Queensland will have a state election early in the New Year. I believe the people of Queensland understand that the Newman Government has been the “firm hand on the tiller” that we all need at this time. For Queensland’s sake, I wish the Government every success.
2014 was a year of both great successes and significant challenges.
Over the past year the Federal Government has achieved many of its election promises. The boats have been stopped, the carbon and mining taxes are gone and we have spent millions building new roads and infrastructure for Australia’s future.
But more work still needs to be done to get the nation back on track financially and with a new approach to some thorny issues I hope that the Government’s agenda will be more accepted by the Senate.
Importantly for the north, we have also concluded Free Trade Agreements with Japan, Korea and China. These favourable trading terms will help northern producers and innovators penetrate markets that were previously closed to them.
I wish you all great success in your endeavours in 2015 and I look forward to continuing to work with, and for, you in the best interests of Queensland and its people.
My very best wishes for 2015. Look after yourselves and each other.
Happy New Year – may it be peaceful and successful for all.
