Northern based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has congratulated the Queensland Labor Government on the final environmental approval for the Adani Carmichael Mine, urging them to take the final step, and approve the mining lease.
Senator Macdonald joined with his Queensland federal parliamentary colleagues in Canberra this morning to call upon the State Government to take the final step to make the Adani Carmichael Mine a reality.
“This project is critical to the future not only of the State, but the whole of Northern Australia,” Senator Macdonald said.
“Just yesterday the Queensland Minister for Northern Queensland was here in Canberra with a team of Mayors from the North advocating for the development of Northern Australia, as we always all do.
“The best thing the Queensland Government can do to develop Northern Queensland, as part of our broader vision for Northern Australia, is to get this mine going.
“They’ve taken the penultimate step in granting all the environmental approvals and they deserve credit for that.
“Now they’ve got to finish the job and issue a mining lease.
“The employment situation in Central and Northern Queensland is horrific at the moment, and this sort of activity is needed to create jobs in Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Emerald, and all places in between.
“Approving the Adani mining lease is essential to get the economy of the North going.”
