I welcome this week’s announcement of Federal Coalition’s approval to expand Abbot Point Coal Terminal, subject to strict environmental conditions. This is wonderful news for both Northern Australia and the nation’s coal industry.
It could not have come at a better time for the hundreds and hundreds of families whose lives have been on hold during the long and arduous process to get this project across the line.
It’s a win for common-sense, and a victory for the economy, with the expansion of the terminal set to facilitate massive mining projects such as Adani’s $16billion Carmichael mine.
Let’s hope it’s not subject to yet another round of baseless appeals from the Greens, at further expense to the taxpayer and the national economy. We need projects like this if we are to continue the momentum in the development of Northern Australia, and compete on the global stage.
