North Queensland Cattle Industry Reconstruction
North Queensland’s only Senator, Ian Macdonald welcomed Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement of the establishment of the North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency.
“Today’s announcement by the Prime Minister is one that will be welcomed by Western Queensland farmers who have gone through one of the worst disasters in history,” Senator Macdonald said.
“The plan will include new programs to provide access to seed funding to rebuild on-farm infrastructure like fences, water infrastructure, as well as restocking herds.”
The Government, through the Australian Tax Office is taking further steps to provide assistance to flood-affected taxpayers by deferring the due date of tax payments and lodgements, remitting interest and penalty charges on tax debts, fast tracking income tax and GST refunds
Senator Macdonald said the Prime Minister had seen the devastation first hand and acted swiftly with this announcement.
“This Government knows how tough our farmers have it at the moment and that is why we have announced a range of options to help with the recovery, but that just doesn’t stop and start at the farm gate,” Senator Macdonald said.
“The Government is speaking to banks, working with the ATO and doing considerable work to make sure that our farmers are able to get back onto their feet and continue doing the work they love.”
