New year’s windfall for Innisfail Mens Shed

The Innsfail and District Men’s Shed Association Inc is starting off the new year with a big smile and a decent windfall with $7,500funding as part of the Commonwealth Government’s National Shed Development Programme.

Northern-based Senator Ian Macdonald said the grant will be used by the group to modify existing facilities and build stand-alone disabled toilet facilities.

“Mens Sheds provide a unique opportunity for men to regularly meet and socialise in an informal environment,” Senator Macdonald said.

“Not only do the participants value the interaction and range of activities they are involved in, these activities generally benefit the wider community, so it’s a win-win outcome.”

Under the National Shed Development Programme, all Men’s Sheds in Australia can apply for up to $8,000 in funding, with priority given to sheds in rural and remote areas, and in areas of disadvantage.

The National Shed Development Programme is managed by the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA).

A new round of funding for Men’s Sheds is expected to be announced shortly.  For further details including information on the application process contact AMSA via email at [email protected] or phone 1300 55 009.
