Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has in the Senate today urged support for the landmark legislation, moving to safe, legal and reliable supply of medicinal cannabis and cannabinoid oil.
Senator Macdonald chaired the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee which conducted the initial inquiry into a similar Bill on medicinal cannabis introduced by Senator Di Natale.
Senator Macdonald said he was delighted the Government’s legislation had reached the Senate quickly and was on track to be passed through the Parliament in record time.
“This is wonderful news for Queensland families, needing access to the drug which heretofore was only available by illegal means,” Senator Macdonald said.
“The new arrangement should be operational by early 2017 and I thank the Health Minister and the department who have worked tirelessly to have this legislation drafted and passed through the Parliament.
“This legislation is a tribute to all involved throughout the process and although we still have some time before all the requirements are in place, we will soon have an effective and safe way of cultivating medicinal cannabis.”
