More than 2,539 young students across the Herbert electorate will benefit from the Australian Government’s boost of more than $400 million in preschool funding.
Northern based Government Senator Ian Macdonald said an additional $3.26 million investment across Herbert would ensure local preschoolers have access to 15 hours a week of quality early learning in the year before they start school.
“The extension of the Universal Access to Early Childhood Education is an important initiative to give our littlest learners the best start to their education,” Senator Macdonald said.
“A quality preschool education is essential for laying the foundations for successful learning, including transition to full-time school and future school success.
“We’re also providing assurance by giving certainty to families across the Herbert electorate which is so very important.
“Our commitment to early childhood education and care is clear and I welcome this latest announcement,” Senator Macdonald said.
The Australian Government is investing $427.8 million this year, $440 million in 2019 for preschool, as well as investing an additional $2.5 billion to overhaul the childcare system.
