Third quarter payments under the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant programme have now been made to councils in the Kennedy electorate.
The Commonwealth government is providing $575 million to local councils nationwide today, and $22 million of this is going to councils in the Kennedy region.
North Queensland LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has welcomed this financial boost for local councils in northern and western Queensland.
“The Coalition Government is absolutely committed to helping local authorities and communities in the regions achieve their goals.
“The $22 million being allocated to local councils in the Kennedy electorate today is just the third instalment in the $86.7 million in grants they will receive this financial year,” he said.
The Financial Assistance Grant programme will deliver $9.3 billion to local governments from 2014–15 to 2018–19 for investment in services and to build community infrastructure.
“Councils across Kennedy are free to spend these grants according to their local priorities – be they in infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment or roads projects.
“I am looking forward to seeing communities across northern and western Queensland target local priorities with today’s Financial Assistance Grant funding,” said Senator Macdonald.
