The shallowness and complete hypocrisy of the Greens political party is shown by their support for Bob Katter, a candidate who is making light of killing people with guns, Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald said today.
Senator Macdonald said if the Greens or their leader had any integrity whatsoever, they would be putting Bob Katter last on their how to vote cards.
“The Greens, who have advocated the need for stricter gun laws, have put the gun-toting Katter Party ahead of candidates from the Government which actually had the courage to introduce tighter gun laws to Australia following a gun massacre in Tasmania,” Senator Macdonald said.
“The Greens continue to rave on about guns and violence so here’s a chance for them to actually put their money where their mouths are and change their How to Vote cards to put last a candidate who thinks shooting people is ‘funny’.
“Labor leader in the Senate Penny Wong has said she is ‘uncomfortable’ with Mr Katter’s promotion of guns and violence. I wonder if her ‘uncomfortableness’ will extend to putting Mr Katter last on their HTV card?
“One can imagine what outrage you would have had from Bill Shorten or Richard Di Natale if a Liberal candidate had been involved in such a distasteful advertisement.
“But it seems that Labor will follow unions’ support for Mr Katter by simply ignoring this outrage.
“And Mr Katter’s whole media stunt makes light of a serious policy to encourage foreign investment into Australia which since European settlement has built the economy and jobs, particularly in rural Australia.”
