Coalition delivering Stronger Communities in Herbert

Community organisations across Herbert are set to share in $22.5 million to improve local infrastructure and provide essential community equipment, with applications now open for Round 4 of the Stronger Communities Programme.

Northern based Government Senator Ian Macdonald said the initiative is open to a range of important community infrastructure projects such as sporting facilities and community halls.

“The North Queensland region has been very successful under previous rounds of the SCP and I will be ensuring our community receives its fair share again,” Senator Macdonald said.

“Across Herbert we have seen 21 projects already receive funding, including $20,000 towards the Shedspace Music Room in Thuringowa and $18,500 for improvements to the Saints Cricket Club House.

“Community and sporting groups are at the heart of our local community and it is important they are supported in their efforts to make our region a better place.”

LNP Candidate for Herbert Phillip Thompson said he has already spoken to local groups interested in applying.

“Grants will be available between $2,500 and $20,000 for successful applications and we encourage local organisations within the community to put forward their attractive, high-quality, projects for assessment,” Mr Thompson said.

“These are the sorts of vital projects that bring our communities together, strengthen our social connections, build community participation and create vibrant and viable communities into the future.”

Each electorate will receive $150,000 to allocate towards successful projects, with a maximum of 20 projects to be funded per electorate.

Applications open on Monday 6 August 2018, and close on Thursday 11 October 2018.
