Central Queensland Communities Receive Bushfire Assistance

The Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) is providing disaster assistance for the Gladstone Regional Council communities of Baffle Creek, Deepwater, Oyster Creek, Rules Beach and Taunton who have been affected by severe bushfires currently burning in the region.

More than 80 bushfires are now burning across Queensland today, with emergency services urging residents in Deepwater, Baffle Creek, Rules Beach and Oyster Creek areas to leave their homes immediately.

Queensland Senator Ian Macdonald joined Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd highlighting that disaster assistance could help central Queensland residents affected by the bushfires get some much-needed relief.

“The funding available will help cover the cost of fighting the bushfires and provide personal hardship assistance to those severely impacted.”

“The Commonwealth and Queensland Governments are working together to support recovery efforts.

“We know from fire authorities that the conditions today are like nothing they have ever seen and has the potential to create a ‘firestorm.’

“I join Ken O’Dowd in commending the efforts of firefighters and other emergency services who are out there now battling the bushfires and protecting the communities.
