Budget 2018 - 19 delivers greater veteran support

The Turnbull Government’s Budget 2018-19 is supporting Queensland Veterans, with an additional $8.3 million committed to further develop, implement and promote the Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Program.

Northern based Federal Government Senator Ian Macdonald said $2.2 million will also be provided for mental health treatment for Australian Defence Force Reservists.

“This important funding expands on the available mental health care support to ensure those who need help are able to receive it,” Senator Macdonald said.

“We’ve also committed $10.8 million for improved compensation arrangements, providing former Defence personnel who are unable to work with fortnightly compensation payments equivalent to their normal earnings when they are engaged in an approved study program as part of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs rehabilitation plan.

“$2.5 million will be provided for one off Armistice Centenary Grants Program, supporting local community based commemorative projects.

“The Turnbull Government has also announced improved dental and allied health services for veterans, ensuring veterans have access to first class health care.

“Townsville’s veteran community is a huge part of the social fabric of our region and I’m proud to be a part of a government which is supporting those who have served their country.”
