Mareeba Shire Council will receive $170,000 to help upgrade critical transport infrastructure thanks to the Commonwealth Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.
Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald said the council will receive the funds for the Oakey Creek Bridge renewal project on Springmount Road as part of the Round Two of the programme, which supports councils to maintain bridge infrastructure.
The one lane timber bridge will be replaced with a one lane concrete bridge as part of the works
“Not only does this funding represent significant investment in regional areas across the north, it also means vital transport routes can be maintained, supporting the movement of traffic and freight in and out of these areas,” Senator Macdonald said.
As part of the funding approval, councils are required to match the funding.
“By investing in the local road network, we are ensuring we maintain critical infrastructure that will prove essential to regional communities as we start to see further growth and development across Northern Australia.
“Congratulations to the Mareeba Council for putting forward this submission and for their contribution to the works.”
