Nearly $300,000 will be invested into upgrading critical transport infrastructure in Charters Towers thanks to the Commonwealth Government’s Bridges Renewal Programme.
Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald said Charters Towers Regional Council will receive $295,500 to upgrade the Reedybrook Creek Bridge in Greenvale and Eight Mile Bridge in Pentland as part of the Round Two of the programme, which supports councils to maintain bridge infrastructure.
Both single lane grid bridges will be replaced with a strengthened one lane concrete bridge.
“Not only does this funding represent significant investment in regional areas across the north-west of the state, it also means vital transport routes can be maintained, supporting the movement of traffic and freight into these areas,” Senator Macdonald said.
As part of the funding approval, councils are required to match the funding.
“By investing in the local road network, we are ensuring we maintain critical infrastructure that will prove essential to regional communities as we start to see further growth and development across Northern Australia.
