Boeing Defence Australia In Townsville Secures $20 Million Chinook Foxtrot Helicopter Maintenance Contract

Townsville-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald said the announcement of the Helicopter Maintenance Contract is yet another confidence booster for the Townsville region coming hard on the heels of the Singapore strategic partnership, the City Deal and the Eastern Corridor Rail Link.

“While the significant benefits we are expecting in the north as a result of the Singaporean Government’s $2billion investment in defence infrastructure is longer term, today’s announcement will fuel the region’s growing optimism,” Senator Macdonald said.

“This is a significant announcement not only for the City’s  defence industry, but for the long-term development of a highly-skilled, responsive workforce that we can expect will evolve as the region caters for the huge economic benefits that will flow as a result of the Turnbull Government’s record investment in the North and its closer ties with the tropic world.”

This $20million deal will mean 18 highly skilled jobs working with soldier technicians on the Army’s new Chinook Foxtrot helicopters in Townsville. The deal will start on 1 January, 2017.
