Northern-based LNP Senator Ian Macdonald has thanked the Queensland State Government after it gave the final green light for Adani, saying the decision will help re-ignite confidence in the North Queensland economy.
“This mining lease represents so much more than just a multi-billion dollar investment - it will restore confidence in a desperately deflated state economy,” Senator Macdonald said.
Senator Macdonald has repeatedly called on the State Government to grant the mining lease, the final hurdle in the long-running Adani Carmichael saga, highlighting the critical unemployment situation, particularly in North and Central Queensland.
“If we are to see a turn-around in the fortunes of thousands upon thousands of families across this state, then major development projects such as this are imperative,” Senator Macdonald said.
“The Federal Coalition has committed millions of dollars in funding for Northern Australia, but the catalyst is private investment.
“The State Government have played cat and mouse on this project for the past 18 months, and I, along with all my federal colleagues, am relieved they have finally come to the realisation that this project is key not only to Queensland’s future, but the whole of Northern Australia.”
