The Richmond Early Education Centre has secured a $139,000 grant through the Building Better Regions Fund to create the community’s first all-inclusive playground for young children.
Northern based Government Senator Ian Macdonald said the Richmond Early Education Centre’s Outdoor Infrastructure and Sustainability Project will see the construction of a safe playground that would foster important learning, recreational and developmental opportunities for the community’s youngest residents.
“This has been identified as an important project that will help engage young children aged up to 5 years, and provide a safe play environment where they can grow and learn,” Senator Macdonald said.
“It is essential that children in regional and remote communities have same access to basic infrastructure and learning opportunities as their city cousins, so I am delighted this project has been successful.
“I congratulate the project applicant, the Richmond Early Education Centre, for all their hard work in putting together such a competitive, comprehensive project application that will result in many benefits to the local community.”
President of the Richmond Early Education Centre Inc, Amy Lawry, said the staff and committee were delighted with the news.
“We are extremely excited to begin work on our complete outdoor transformation as part of our ongoing sustainability project,” Ms Lawry said.
“This will greatly benefit current and future generations of the Centre through interactive and inclusive playscapes.”
The Flinders Shire Council also received funding, securing $4million for the Hughenden Recreational Lake.
More than 500 applications were received for this round.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Building Better Regions Fund was created to help build strong communities for decades to come.
“I aim to help build the kinds of regional communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in, or come back to, and projects like this one do exactly that,” Minister Nash said.
Another round of BBRF is expected to be opened before the end of the year.
