Northern based Government Senator Ian Macdonald has called on Labor’s Cathy O’Toole to explain to the people of North Queensland why she has sold out jobs in the region for green votes in Melbourne.
Senator Macdonald said the Member for Herbert’s stance on Adani is threatening thousands of jobs and major investment opportunities and is in direct contrast to the strong support given by Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill.
“Cathy O’Toole’s failure to represent the people of North Queensland on this matter is sad and difficult to comprehend. We have thousands of locals crying out for the jobs that would be provided by Adani and a local MP who has turned her back on those people desperate for work,” Senator Macdonald said.
“What gives Ms O’Toole or the Labor party the right to jeopardise this once in a lifetime opportunity for North Queensland?
“Today we have Townsville Cr Hill and Townsville Enterprise CEO Patricia O’Callaghan calling on Labor to stop putting the Adani project at risk.
“I would ask the Member for Herbert to explain why she thinks she knows better than her constituents and local leaders and sees fit to put her own left wing ideology before the future of the people she is paid to represent.
“Adani has indicated it is already supporting more than 800 Queensland families and is paying some $7.2 million in wages each month.
“The smear campaign being run by the Labor party is disgraceful and I’m appalled we have a North Queensland MP who is so eager to sell out her region.”
